Phnom Penh—In the Friday morning of 14 February 2020, Team for Prevention of Faintness and Work Injury (TPFWI) and Road Traffic Safety Team for Worker Prevention (RTSTWP) of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training convened the meeting on Annual Achievements 2019 and Action Plans 2020 presided over by H.E. Ouk Samvithyea, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Director of NSSF, President of Road Traffic Safety Team for Worker Prevention, and Member of Road Traffic Safety Committee.
According to the 2019 annual report, H.E. Heng Sophannarith, Director of Policy Division of NSSF, said that so far, TPFWI investigated and studied the worker’s faintness in a bid to find the root causes and take the corrective measures on 11 factories with 831 faint workers (822).
If comparable with 2018, there is the decrease of 06 factories equal to 35% with 1,278 workers equal to 61%–most faint workers resulted from seeing just one or two workers fainted and then they started to faint massively (Mass Psychogenic Illness).
He added that the root causes of faintness include 39% of social psychological issue, 18% of chemical issue, 18% of physical issue, 7% of mechanic issue, 7% of biological issue, 7% of work preparation, and 4% and overtime issue.
Based on the traffic accident of workers in 2019, there is an increase of 1,554 cases—car: 43 cases, motorcycle: 1,437 cases, trishaw: 09 cases, bicycle: 12 cases, on-foot: 53 cases. In the case of total traffic accidents of workers, there are 2,006 victims including 50 deaths, 351 serious injuries, and 1,615 mild injuries.
If comparable to the same period of 2018 and 2019, the 2019 traffic accident declined 156 cases equal to 10% with 143 victims equal to 7%.
The causes of traffic accident include 37% of over-speed, 23% of failure to observe the traffic priority, 18%of dangerous overtaking, 9.2% of inattentive turning, 8% of failure to observe the right-hand priority, 4% of vehicle factor, and 0.8% of other factors.
In relation to the above-mentioned issues, H.E. Ouk Samvithyea, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Director of NSSF, urged TPFWI and RTSTWP to keep on disseminating to workers at the enterprise/establishment with the aim of raising awareness of these challenges, making them healthy, and promoting their livelihood as well as the national economy with nonstop progress.
It’s certified that the above-mentioned annual meeting was joined by representatives of ministries, institutions, organizations, trade unions, factories, and stakeholders amounted to approximately 150 participants.
