Phnom Penh — This is the first bilateral meeting between H.E. OUK Samvithyea, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Director General of NSSF, and Mr. POKPONG Lawansiri, Head of the Economic and Social Rights Unit of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia, in order to identify ways and actions that better support the social security system in Cambodia.
In this occasion, His Excellency Director General of NSSF welcomed and expressed his profound thanks to the United Nations for keeping the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Cambodia and for strongly supporting the development of the social security system in Cambodia, which is a key system in ensuring income security of the NSSF members caused by sicknesses, occupational risks, disabilities, maternity, old-age, and such.
His Excellency Director General of NSSF further added that the NSSF leaders have already enhanced the collaboration with many national and international organizations as well as development partners to strengthen and extend own capacities in implementing social security schemes as a response to the National Social Protection Policy Framework 2016-2025 of the Royal Government, which is the tool for reducing and preventing poverty, vulnerability, and inequality as well as contributing to the development and protection of human resources and economic growth.
At the same moment, Mr. POKPONG Lawansiri also mentioned that, as the Head of the Economic and Social Rights Unit of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia, he will enhance a collaboration with NSSF in facilitating the efforts of the United Nations for Human Rights related to the promotion and protection of the economic and social rights in Cambodia, particularly the rights to social security schemes and decent life.
This bilateral meeting was held on the morning of 10 March 2022 at the Grand Meeting Room of the NSSF Headquarter with the presence of 11 participants from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the Economic and Social Rights Unit of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia.
