Kampong Speu—On 23 May 2018, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, visited to approximately 19,949 factory workers coming from 17 factories in Kampong Speu Province. This event was held in Borey Kamakor Village, Sang Kat Chhbar Morn, Chhbar Morn Municipality, Kampong Speu Province.
On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, said that all 17 factories which allowed workers to participate in this event are from China’s investors.
H.E. Dr. Minister remarked that factories in Kampong Speu Province built nearby the crowded by creating more employments and occupations for youths, owners of rent house, food sellers, transportation service, and other services in a bid to contribute to develop the national economy and citizens’ standard of living.
He added that there are currently 225 factories and enterprises/establishments with 98,213 workers in Kampong Speu Province by providing the total wage of over 220 million USD annually.
From 20 August 2017 to 23 May 2018, Samdech Techo Hun Sen has paid visits to workers for 42 times equal to 524,476 participants—including factory administrators, supervisors, foremen, and assistants amounted to 734 participants.
Through the meeting with Samdech Techo, working conditions and challenges of workers were addressed continuously and other benefits for workers are provided by Samdech Techo. Since January 2018 onwards, all factories in Cambodia have been implementing the minimum wage of 170 USD.
Workers have entitlement to access medical care services free of charge. The pregnant workers shall receive three-month maternity leave with 120%, when they deliver babies.
Since 01 January 2018 to 22 May 2018 onwards, there are 21,632 pregnant workers who delivered 21,682 newborns received 8.6 billion riels from the Royal Government of Cambodia.
